Which way do you walk from Houston Street?
From the Varick Street exits, walk west on Houston Street to Greenwich Street, turn north and follow it past Clarkson, Leroy and Morton Streets to Christopher Street, then go west one block to the river. Alternatively, walk all the way west on Houston to Pier 40 and take the Hudson River Park path north.
When is Houston Street the better stop?
If you are coming from Hudson Square, SoHo's west side or Tribeca and you are already near Varick, getting on or off here makes sense. Coming from uptown on the 1, stay on one stop less and use Christopher St–Stonewall, which is a slightly shorter walk.
What should you bring?
A valid government photo ID showing you are 21 or older. You can order on the West Village menu before you get off the train and pick up at the counter.
